Collection: Hair Food & Grease

Hair Food & Grease

Hair food and hair grease are thick, oil-based dressings used to seal moisture into afro hair and to oil the scalp. We stock close to 150, including Blue Magic, Ultra Sheen, ORS hairdress, Wonder Gro and Black and White pomade.

Which one do you need?

  • Hair food: a lighter dressing with added vitamins or oils, for scalp and hair.
  • Hair grease: heavier, petroleum-based, for sealing and for pressing styles.
  • Hairdress: a softer cream grease with oils such as coconut, olive or castor.
  • Pomade: grease with hold, for slick and moulded styles.

Common questions

Does hair food make hair grow? It does not speed up growth. It protects the hair you have by sealing in moisture and reducing breakage, which helps you keep length.

How do I use hair grease properly? Moisturise first with water or a leave-in, then apply a small amount of grease on top to lock it in.

Should I grease my scalp? A little along the partings can ease dryness. Too much can clog the scalp, so wash regularly.

Hair Food & Grease FAQs

What is hair food?
Hair food is a rich, grease-style product for the scalp and hair. It softens dry hair and adds shine.
What is the difference between hair grease and hair oil?
Grease is thicker and stays on the hair longer, so it seals well. Oil is lighter and easier to wash out.
How do I use hair grease without build-up?
Use a small amount on the scalp or ends, and wash with a clarifying shampoo from time to time.
